Puerto Rico has a large variety of Mexican restaurants. However, only a select few truly stand out. One of my favorites is Méjico Lindo, a family owned restaurant dishing out quality and authentic Mexican food since 1998.
Colorful and inviting, the restaurant has a relaxed vibe that will make you feel at home right away. As we walked in, we were greeted by the owner and brought to our table.
If you are like me, margaritas are MUST when enjoying Mexican goodness. On this occasion, we decided to stray away from the traditional margarita and ordered the strawberry margarita. It was good and tasted just like a strawberry frappe, but I think we will stick to the traditional one next time.
For our appetizer, we ordered the queso fundido with chorizo. This is one of my go-to appetizers every time I visit any Mexican restaurant. The combination of textures (similar to fondue) and flavors (chorizo…need I say more?) just makes it irresistible to me and this one definitely hit the spot! Delicious! Just top each bite off with their homemade spicy salsa and you are good to go!
For my main course, I ordered the Carnitas Méjico Rico (pork carnitas served with rice, refried beans, guacamole and three tortillas). The dish was out of this world! Every time I visit, I try to order something else on the menu (and fail miserably at it) but this dish is so amazing that once you taste it, it’s almost impossible to resist ordering it again. The pork is moist, tender and perfectly seasoned. The guacamole and the refried beans are all homemade and don’t get me started on that rice (YUM!). I just stuff a little bit of everything on the plate into the corn tortilla and I am immediately transported to my happy place.
Fernando ordered the Tacos al Pastor. Al pastor means “shepherd style” in Spanish and refers to the way the meat is prepared. It consists of a roasted boneless pork shoulder marinated in a mixture chilies and spices with a touch of pineapple. He enjoyed every flavorful bite of that dish!
At Mejico Lindo the portions are extremely generous so come hungry and be prepared to leave in a food coma. The prices are a steal for the quantity and the quality of the food that you are receiving. Not only is the food and the ambiance great, but they have excellent service. While we where there, we watched as the owner went table by table greeting customers and making sure they were satisfied. We loved that! Keep up the excellent work Méjico Lindo and see you soon.
