Aperitivo, which translates to appetizer, literally means to stimulate the appetite. Aperitivo is extremely common throughout all of Italy and is enjoyed as a pre-dinner cocktail similar to the American “happy hour”. The drinks are served with complimentary small bites in a casual and social atmosphere. It is the perfect prelude for dinner since the bitter cocktails stimulate gastric acids to increase the appetite.
Bringing this Italian tradition to Puerto Rico is Nonna Cucina Rustica. Every first and third Thursday of the month (October through December 2013) from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. you will get a chance to enjoy premium World Class cocktails at budget friendly prices ($7.00 to $10.00 each). As a bonus, you get to delight your taste buds with complementary tapas, making it the ideal setting for after work drinks with colleagues or friends while gearing up for dinner and relaxing with live music.
Last Thursday, we had the pleasure of attending L’Ora del Aperitivo where we had the opportunity to sample some of the World Class cocktails and taste the complementary bites. On this occasion, among the tapas offered were: mushroom arancini, saffron arancini, polenta topped with porcini mushrooms, pizzetas, among others. They were delicious! Just in case you were wondering, the tapas menu will vary every Thursday.
