Established 100 years ago, on a farm donated to the Government of Puerto Rico provided that they build there a marketplace, the Placita de Santurce was born. The original structure had two levels. On the lower level were the grocery stores, kiosks and billeteros. On the upper-level was the butcher shop and several offices, among them, medical offices. This upper level was located around the inner edge of the building. Over the years, La Placita has been remodeled several times which led to the removal of the upper level. Currently, a sculpture of two avocados is the representative icon of La Placita.
The celebration will begin on Thursday, November 20 and will continue until Sunday November 23. More than 40 shops are expected to participate. As part of the activities, an exhibition entitled La Placita 100 años de historia will be held. The event promises to be four days of culture, music, art and gastronomy to celebrate the important history of the most popular square of the Americas in the heart of Santurce.
This centennial celebration stems from the same placeros and merchants of La Placita de Santurce. La Placita de Santurce is today, a place that brings together all social and cultural classes in the Puerto Rico. It has become a major tourist attraction in itself, since it is representative of our diversity and excellence in gastronomy, music and culture.

The event has a well thought out safety plan with the support of the Municipal Police. For security purposes, the entry of coolers and beverages into the area of La Placita will not be permitted. Parking is available in Minillas.
