In honor of Malbec, Argentina’s flagship grape, over 70 events will be held in 64 cities and 50 countries worldwide. Puerto Rico is no exception, since on Friday April 17, the National Malbec World Day will be celebrated in a unique wine pairing five course dinner guided by Descorches Du Vin and Certified Sommelier John Gonzalez. Chef Piñero will be responsible for the preparation of the menu crafted especially for this dinner and the event will be held at his new concept of cuisine d’auteur called Mesa 364.
This year, the theme of the celebration is “Lights, Camera, Malbec” where the Malbec grape and the movies blend into an analogy distinguishing art and industry. The entity responsible for the celebrations of Malbec World Day is Wines of Argentica (WoFA), an organization that has selected three short films so that viewers can dive into the Argentinian and Malbec culture.
The event in Puerto Rico has the peculiarity that the wine pairings will take place by way of contrast, which is untraditional, since the star is going to be the Malbec grape. “ My foray into the world of wine happened many years ago through the Malbec grape. To me, this celebration is very special and the fact that Puerto Rico is doing it through Descorches Du Vin and in sync with other major cities in the world,” said John Gonzalez, Sommelier graduated from the CAFA International School of Sommeliers.
Admission to the event is limited to 32 spaces and the cost is $89.00 per person. It is a feast to celebrate Malbec which aims to create an inviting ambiance in which guests can enjoy Chef Piñero’s haute cuisine and learn about the Malbec grape with the sommelier. Also, as an additional attraction, those in attendance will enjoy a screening of the winning short films of the contest organized by the WofA whose aim is to show the Argentine culture and spirit in the world.
