Over 60 event planners from South Florida got the chance to taste exquisite Puerto Rican dishes during the Flavors of Our Island event held in Miami and organized by Meet Puerto Rico, an organization responsible for promoting Puerto Rico as an ideal group and convention destination. The Puerto Rico’s National Culinary Team was in charge of crafting the menu for the special occasion.
Those in attendance at the event were able to savor everything from mini-bacalaítos served with avocado salad, stuffed piononos with tomato and Serrano ham jam, to a petite beef fillet with caramelized onions, roasted garlic and strips of banana. The grand finale of the tasting consisted of a dessert made with sponge cake and coconut mousse, covered in chocolate sauce and served with banana ice cream and guava sauce.
“Our guests had the opportunity to get to know first hand why the Island has become the gastronomic capital of the Caribbean and how we can offer a different and authentic experience to groups who visit us” stated Milton Segarra, President and CEO of Meet Puerto Rico. In attendance at the event were also representatives from various hotels in the Island.
In turn, Clarisa Jimenez, President and Chief Officer of the Puerto Rico Hotel and Tourism Association, stated “it is an honor that our National Culinary Team were part of this event and that they demonstrated the great talent that our Island has to offer groups of tourists and conventions.
Puerto Rico has positioned itself as a world-class destination attracting important events for groups and conventions. Recently, Meet Puerto Rico assured that 409 groups and over 100,000 delegates in the upcoming years will visit the Island to attend meetings, conferences, and conventions with an impact of $110 million dollars to the local economy.
