Located in the heart of Hato Rey’s Banking District (also known as the “Golden Mile”) you will find Tras-Patio Bistro Puertorriqueño, a small and inviting restaurant serving local and international cuisine with a gourmet twist.
Due to its location, it caters mainly to the lunch crowd of the area. But on Thursdays and Fridays they also cater to the happy hour crowd and open until 10:00 p.m. The restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor seating.
Two weeks ago, I was meeting one of my best friends Luis. Since he had never been to Tras-Patio before, I suggested that we head there for lunch.
As our appetizers, we ordered the Fish Tacos. They were topped with onions and fresh cilantro. The tacos were exquisite! I particularly enjoyed that instead of frying the fish, it was grilled. The onions and fresh cilantro gave a nice balance of flavors to the dish. The best part was the side of homemade spicy sauce. It’s just amazing! It provides a welcome kick of heat to the fish without overpowering its flavor.
Since I had a long workday ahead, I decided to go the healthier route and ordered the Bulgao Salad with Fried Plantains as my main course. The Bulgao Salad was beautifully presented. I practically inhaled it! The Bulgao was perfectly cooked and extremely tender. The salad was incredibly refreshing. I simply could not get enough of it! Don’t get me started on those sweet plantains. They were out of this world.
As his main course, Luis ordered the Pork Ribs with Tamarind and Sesame Glace with a side of Avocado Salad. The meat was so tender it was practically falling of the bone. You could appreciate the tartness of the tamarind and the light hints of the nutty flavor of the sesame seeds. The avocado salad was a hit as well.
No meal is complete without dessert right? That’s why we decided to order the Tarte Tatin. Its served hot and topped with a gorgeous arrangement of sliced apples and vanilla ice cream. The crust was crispy with a sweet caramel-like glaze that coated and combined the flavors of the apples and the varied textures of the dish perfectly. It kept us wanting more. Definitely a must have when visiting Tras-Patio.
At Tras-Patio, executive chef and owner Javier Nassar uses each dish as the canvas for his unique culinary creations. You can expect quality food, great prices, and attentive service. Aside from the regular menu, their lunch specials are changed on a weekly basis, so follow them on Facebook to keep up with their latest offerings.
